LO2 – Summery

To research how to present products in a manner that is appealing to the education sector.

The biggest part of researching selling to the educational sector was how big the market is. I never realised how many businesses helped other businesses target them.

Although because of all of these factors researching how to sell was very easy. I found countless websites who all spoke of very similar aspects when selling to schools.

Being educational, affordable and efficient. These are all aspects we have attempted to incorporate into our product. From new pricing plans to getting all the recordings done within hours. We also offered the stems to the bands in case they did want to mix their work themselves.

We found CD’s and USB sticks are the most popular forms of distribution for this style of product, so these are the methods we looked into.

Targeting our product at the education Sector.

Over the course of the past week, I have done some research in how to market a product towards a school.

There are some main principles that products marketed to schools need to have. They mainly need to be.

  • Cost Effective
  • Educational
  • Quick

All the sites I looked at which explained how to sell towards the education sector all said these things. The product must be at an affordable price, due to the funding of schools. The product must have some kind of educational value, and it must be done quickly.

This website gives a list of essentially everything that you need to do in order to sell products in the education sector.

This website contains more information on the school format and what kinds of products the schools buy. It even talks about who has the money and who to talk to.

We have used this information to tailor our products presentation towards the education sector.

Selling to Schools

There is a surprising amount of information online that talks about selling the schools.

The Four Golden Rules of Selling to Schools

This website, for example, sells information about schools and helps you get in contact with them.

They have a free downloadable guide that shows you have to market your product and the kind of things you should say.

I have found the main thing that interest schools is a product with an educational value.

For our product, we would look to potentially teach the students who were taking part in what we were doing. We also think the fact that were giving them a different look at the music industry is good.

Showing them that there is more to music than just what is taught is something we are both passionate about.

Meeting the Bands

We headed over to the college to meet the bands and chat about their styles.

This was particularly useful as it allowed Joe and me to formulate a plan for how we were going to record them.

The first band was called The Docs. They described their style as Indie rock, saying they were inspired by bands like kings of Leon.

The second band was called Sunderstraight. They described themselves as indie pop. With inspirations in the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The third band was called Undercover tide. Their style was more progressive. They also have a different instrument layout to the other bands.

Meeting the bands was very useful as it helps with formulating recording days.
